Development of cooperation between Turkey and Kazakhstan

Today, during World Cancer Leaders Summit in Nur-Sultan, Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey Fahrettin Kodz and Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yelzhan Birtanov signed a memorandum of cooperation in the sphere of healthcare of both countries. The memorandum will establish a close cooperation in the field of joint investment projects, building hospitals, development of higher medical education, and exchange of experience.

In his opening remarks, Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey Fahrettin Kodz expressed appreciation of the fact that such an event as World Cancer Leaders Summit were taking place in ancestral lands of all Turkic countries. The Republic of Turkey recognized Kazakhstan on December 16, 1991, being the first state to recognize the independence of Kazakhstan, when Kazakhstan declared its independence. Since then, Turkey has focused on the development of both countries. The parties agreed to update the 1997 agreement on healthcare development in order to further develop public-private partnership projects, build university hospitals and multifunctional hospitals, develop such specialties as “Emergency medicine”, “Oncology and Nuclear Medicine”, “Traumatology and Orthopedics”, admission and training undergraduate and graduate students in Kazakhstan and Turkey.

Within the intergovernmental agreement a working group has been established which will work to improve bilateral relations. The fact that Chairman of the Board of “Semey Medical University” NCJSC Yersin Zhunussov joined the working group is noteworthy. Minister of Health of the Republic of Turkey noted that in the embassy of Turkey in Kazakhstan department of health would be established.
During the meeting, Health Ministries of Turkey and Kazakhstan commended the results of the cooperation in the field of higher medical education, a prime example of which is strategic partnership between Baskent University and Semey Medical University. The strategic partnership based on synergy of education, science and clinical activities has been growing successfully.

In particular, thanks to cooperation between Baskent Univeristy and SMU great experience has been gained which was implemented in integrated educational programs, training international level doctors in emergency medicine, and creating best conditions for training highly qualified specialists!
