Within the framework of the strategic partnership between the University of Bashkent (Turkey) and the Semey Medical University (NCJSC SMU, Kazakhstan), the Director of the Department of Radiology of Bashkent University Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muhtesem Agildere (Ankara) and Specialist of the Department of Nuclear Medicine Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Yapar (Adana) visited on October 14-17.
The team of Semey Radiology/Nuclear medicine department and strategic partners the main directions for fulfilling the task 2: “Developing a list of key competencies of graduates of the residency in the specialty of Radiology / Nuclear Medicine” discussed.
The team of Semey Radiology/Nuclear medicine department (Madiyeva M.R., Kuanysheva A.G., Rakhimbekov D.T., Raissov D.T., Koldybayeva M.N.) and the team of radiation and clinical oncology department (Adylkhanov T.A., Beketova BB, Salykbayeva K.S.) and Bashkent University radiology Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muhtesem Agildere and nuclear medicine Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Yapar, as well as the Head of the Department of Innovative Development NCJSC SMU Dr. F. Serdar Gürel the main directions of modernization of the training program of radiology/nuclear medicine identified and the main key competencies of residency training between Semey-Baskent Universities discussed.
In the discussion process Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muhtesem Agildere was proposed to change the terms of training at the residency in radiology to 5 years and to adapt the educational program to sub-specialization, for radiation therapy and radiation oncology – up to 4 years.
With the aim of training specialists in nuclear medicine Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muhtesem Agildere proposed to organize a department of nuclear medicine, since the preparation of these specialists in the residency contains two areas (radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy) lasting 4 years.
During the visit, experts the clinical facilities of the Department of Radiology /Nuclear medicine and the Department of Clinical and Radiation Oncology visited. The equipment of the Department of Radiology of the University Hospital and the equipment by beam therapy of the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Oncology were presented.
At the Department of Radiology/Nuclear medicine Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muhtesem Agildere with residents of 1 and 2 years of study in the specialty “Radiology” and PhD students met. Residents listened to a lecture on the theme “MRI diagnosis of the pituitary gland pathology” and after the lecture discussed.
At the Center of Nuclear medicine and oncology, the Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Japar a lecture about “Basics of PET/CT oncological imaging” to residents of radiology, radiation therapy and oncology presented.
The team of the NJSC “SMU” and experts from the Bashkent University constantly discussed the content of the residency educational training programs, the possibility of adapting the programs to international standards, issuing joint scientific publications, organizing on-line lectures and skype conferences of interesting clinical cases among radiologists of the two countries.
On the last day Prof. Dr. Ahmet Muhtesem Agildere and Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Japar and the team Semey summed up the results of their joint work, experts from the Bashkent University gave recommendations on the presentation of changes and additions to the existing training programs for residents of radiology, radiation therapists and oncologists, recommendations for the draft educational program in nuclear medicine. They also discussed the development of human resources, training in the field of radiology, oncology, nuclear medicine and the modernization of equipment for radiation diagnostics.
