In 1971, the international medical humanitarian organization “Médecins Sans Frontieres” (MSF) was created. The organization is independent, funded mainly by public donations from the countries where it has offices.
MSF, acting under the auspices of the UNO, provides assistance to victims of natural disasters, armed conflicts, epidemics, social marginalization in more than 80 countries around the world, helping everyone, regardless of political, religious or ethnicity. Approximately 700 MSF healthcare professionals work annually in the hottest places of the world.
On August 6, the entire planet marks the international day “Doctors of the World for Peace”, which is held by the decision of the Executive Committee of the international movement “Doctors of the World for the Prevention of Nuclear War”. The date of August 6 was not determined by chance. On this day in 1945, American aircraft bombed Hiroshima, using atomic weapons for the first time in human history. And on August 9 of the same year, an atomic bomb was dropped on another Japanese city – Nagasaki. Ten years after this terrible tragedy, in 1955, the first World Conference for the Prohibition of Atomic and Hydrogen Weapons was held in Hiroshima. And already in 1985 the South Pacific was declared a nuclear-free zone.
The organization “Doctors of the World”, which was founded in 1980 in France, celebrates this day with its daily work. Since its inception, large branches of the “Doctors of the World” have sprung up in 12 countries.
It’s no secret that the XXI century. became an age of violence and terrorist attacks, as a result of which many innocent people are disabled. At the same time, doctors are required not only to be able to correctly provide medical care, but also patience, humanity, and love for the patient. Indeed, sometimes a kind word and understanding can be more valuable than any medicine.
