22.02.23 within the framework of the “Silver University” Project of SMU, NCJSC, a meeting was held between the Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatology Rymbayeva T.Kh. with older listeners from the “Center for Active Longevity” in Semey, on the topic: “Articular Syndrome in Geriatrics”.
At this meeting, especially common diseases of the older generation in rheumatology, such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, were discussed. The main risk factors influencing the development of these diseases, their most characteristic clinical manifestations were explained, some of which the meeting participants noted from each other and shared their symptoms of the articular syndrome.
The main emphasis at this meeting was placed on the prevention of these diseases, especially on the prevention of unwanted complications to which they can lead. So it was mentioned that there is a high risk of pathological fractures in osteoporosis, in view of which it was explained how to secure the homes of an elderly person, what risks of falling exist and recommendations were given to reduce them, about the need for proper nutrition, correction of excess weight. The important role of physical activity in the prevention of diseases of the musculoskeletal system was also mentioned. Resident rheumatologists of the 1st and 2nd years of study (Eshmukhamet Merey and Beisengazinova Akzhan) demonstrated the basic exercise therapy exercises, while the lecture participants actively repeated them. In addition, everyone was given handouts in the form of booklets on the implementation of the exercise therapy complex for each articular department and material on the organization of a safe life.
At the end of the lecture, the audience asked questions of interest to them, acquired the skills of simple physical exercises for their implementation at home and thanked for this meeting.
