Seminar on measles prevention at the regional level

Seminar on measles prevention at the regional level

In 2023, On February 24, the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Abay region organized and conducted a seminar for medical workers of the regional health facilities on measles prevention. Employees of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Dermatovenereology and Immunology of SMU, NCJSC took part in the presentation “Measles – a controlled infection: diagnostic algorithm and management tactics.” The speakers noted that according to the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is currently a threat of the spread of measles in various regions of the world, as COVID-19 has led to a decrease in vaccination coverage and a weakening of epidemic surveillance for this disease. In 2022, a total of 155.5 thousand cases of measles were registered in the world. The complication of the epidemiological situation at the beginning of 2023 for measles is also noted in neighboring countries (Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation). Infectionists covered in detail the algorithm for diagnosing and management of patients with measles. Chief freelance infectious disease specialist of the region Abay Isabayeva E.K. emphasized the lack of alertness of medical workers in case of measles (late diagnosis and poor-quality collection of epidemiological anamnesis in the presence of contact with a patient with measles).
