“Prevention of domestic violence: criminal law and criminological aspects” and “Countering cybercrime, including telephone and Internet fraud”

On April 13, 2023, meetings on the following topics were held in Lecture hall N2 for 1st-year students of all bachelor’s degree programs: “Prevention of domestic violence: criminal law and criminological aspects” and “Countering cybercrime, including telephone and Internet fraud”. The first topic was addressed by the head of the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines, PhD Serik Mukhametkazyevich Sabitov, he told about the problem of domestic violence against women, that domestic violence is one of the most common forms of violence in women’s lives, about the factors influencing the commission of illegal acts against women. Students learned about the “Mother’s House” located in the Krasnyo Cordon area, in which victims of domestic violence can find refuge. The Dean of the School of Medicine Saltanat Esengaliena Uzbekova stated with regret, the fact of domestic violence against a graduate of the Semey Medical University, called for a conscious approach to choosing a partner and spouse in the future.

The second topic was addressed by the senior operative for particularly important cases, the police major of the regional police Department of Abay Mirat Meirambekovich Kabytayev, who noted that fraud committed on the Internet has been an urgent problem in our country lately, and that the number of this type of crimes is growing rapidly. During the meeting, M.M. Kabytaev introduced students to various types of Internet fraud, and also warned them against downloading the programs “Anydesk” or “Teamviewer”. The police major focused the students’ attention on the low detection rate of this type of crime: according to the results of the first quarter of this year, 154 such crimes were registered in the Abai region, of which only 15 were solved due to the great complexity of their disclosure. In conclusion, the Dean of the School of Medicine, S.E. Uzbekova, noted the need for students to comply with the dress code, rules of conduct, recalled disciplinary measures for violations of internal Regulations and the Code of Ethics of students of SMU, NCJSC.[/vc_column_text]
