“Open day” in the specialty of residency “Infectious diseases for adults, children”

As part of the protocol instructions of the Chairman of the Board – Rector Dyusupov A.A. in order to conduct career guidance work on admission to residency, on May 12, 2023, the staff of the Department of Сhildren’s Infectious Diseases and the Department of Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Dermatovenereology held at the clinical base “Regional Center for Phthisiopulmonology of the Abai Region” (corpus of children’s infectious diseases) «Open Day» in the specialty of residency “Infectious diseases of adults, children” for interns of the final course of the specialties “General Medical Practice” and “Pediatrics”.

The event was opened by the head of the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases Efendiev I.M. Imdat Musaevich focused the attention of the interns on the demand for the profession of an infectious disease specialist for adults, children, that training in this specialty is the integration of theory, practice and science. Further, the assistant of the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases Smailov E.S. (graduate of residency in 2018) presented to the attention of those present a presentation on the program “Infectious diseases in adults, children”. Education takes place in two departments: children’s infectious diseases, also infectious diseases, immunology and dermatovenereology. The clinical bases of residency are infectious diseases and children’s infectious diseases hospitals/departments in Semey, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar. The speaker began his speech with the history of the two departments. Admission to residency in the residency specialty “Infectious diseases for adults, children” has been carried out since 2010. Specialty in 2015 and 2021 accredited by an international agency. Residents are taught by professors, associate professors, doctors and candidates of medical sciences, assistants with the highest and first category, practical work is supervised by clinical mentors – experienced doctors with the highest and first category, as well as with more than 5 years of experience. Residents actively master scientific competencies (write abstracts, articles, make scientific reports at republican and international conferences) and competencies for preventive work (publications and appearances on television). For the period from 2010 to 2022, 47 graduates were trained, three of them received a PhD degree, three are in charge of the adult / children’s infectious diseases departments in Pavlodar and Ust-Kamenogorsk, the rest of the graduates work at the Semey and Astana Medical University, also infectious disease doctors (adults / children) in polyclinics and hospitals in the cities of Semey, Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk and in the regions of the region.

Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Dermatovenereology Shaimardanov N.K. spoke about the opportunities for residents to undergo internships in infectious diseases hospitals in Kazakhstan.

Most of the time during training, residents work in the departments of clinical bases, master practical skills directly at the bedside of patients under the guidance of clinical mentors. Head of the children’s boxing department, doctor of the highest category, clinical mentor Karzhaubayeva S.R. in her speech, she drew the attention of future residents to the demand for doctors – infectious disease specialists for adults, children. Saule Raushanovna thanked the heads of both departments for the significant clinical work carried out by their staff.

The graduates of the residency also spoke: Smailov E.S. (2018 release), now an assistant at the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases and Dalelkanova T.D. (graduated in 2020), after graduating from residency, she worked as an acting director for a year. Head of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Center for Mother and Child, Ust-Kamenogorsk, since 2021 – Assistant of the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases. Assistants Smailov E.S. and Dalelkanova T.D. shared their impressions about training in residency. Baltabek Aigerim, a resident of the 1st year of the specialty “Infectious Diseases for Adults and Children,” shared about her training in residency. She spoke about the favorable conditions, sufficient resources of two departments and the clinical base, that during the training, residents receive a sufficient amount of theoretical knowledge and have the opportunity to apply the theory in practice, working directly with children and adults.

In conclusion, the interns expressed their deep gratitude to Imdat Musaevich, Nurlan Kubaydullaevich, the staff of the Department of Children’s Infectious Diseases and the Department of Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Dermatovenereology for the friendly and warm welcome. The interns assured that they would definitely enter the residency program in the specialty “Infectious diseases for adults and children” in August of this year.
