Semey Medical University, NCJSC, is one of the participants of the International project “Training of self-diagnostics of breast cancer in Kazakhstani young population” implemented by Foundation “Education for Democracy” and co-financed by Polish-American Foundation of Liberty within the framework of the program RITA “Changes in region”. AZS WSG Society (Poland, Bydgoszcz) is a realizer of the project at the support of Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Poland. N.A. Balashkevich, m.m.s., assistant of the Department of General Medical Practice of Semey is a coordinator of the project from “SMU” NCJSC.
During the time period from 24th to 28th of April 2023 the working visit of delegates from Poland to Semey held for realization of action items of the final stage of the project. The following persons were among the delegates: Professor of WSG Alexander Skaliy – a Director of the Institution of Sport and Physical Education of WSG, the author and the manager of the project; Professor of WSG Tetiana Skaliy – a Dean on issues of collaboration with universities of East of WSG, an expert on emergency care trainings; Professor of WSG Witold Andrzej Kowalski – a surgeon oncologist-mammologist of the Center of Oncology named after Prof. Francis Lukaszczik (Poland, Bydgoszcz); and also Professor of WSG Kateryna Mulyk – a Head of the Department and a Rector assistant of Kharkov Academy of Physical Education, a participant of the project in Ukraine in 2020-2021.
On April 24, 2023, an Academic Day of fight against breast cancer was held in “University of Semey named after Shakarim”, NCJSC. According to program of the event, N.A. Balashkevich represented the report about implementation of the project in “Semey Medical University”, NCJSC. In addition to consequential description of executed work, the analytical part of project associated strengths, weaknesses, troubles, opportunities and outlooks was demonstrated.
On April 26, 2023, delegates visited “SMU”, NCJSC. After introductory tour and session on issues of further collaboration perspectives, the meeting with university students held within the framework of an Academic Day of fight against breast cancer, commemorating to 70th anniversary of Semey Medical University. There were high-motivated trainees of Kazakhstani organization of medical young people (KazMSA), “Family Medicine” medical residents, GP medical interns at the meeting. After the opening speech of Professor of WSG А.Skaliy, Professor W.Kowalski represented audience a lecture “Self-diagnostics of breast cancer as a preventive program of breast cancer in Poland”. Upon completion of the lecture participants of the meeting had a possibility to ask a speaker questions personally. Also concerned parties exchanged their contacts.
Participation in this International project is an example of serving of a medical university to the society on the level with educational activity. Improvement of medical literacy of people in long-term perspective will promote health care of population of the Republic of Kazakhstan and may create a positive image of local medicine.
