What are our color preferences based on? Why do we like certain colors? Art therapy is a separate but related field of applied psychology. It comes from the psychoanalytic theories of the 1970s, which claimed that some of our emotions and experiences can be expressed not only in words, but also in images and colors. One of the areas where color psychology can be useful for art therapists is to assess what certain colors mean to clients when they use them to create works of art. Even not using color can be an important detail in art therapy, as people struggling with depression tend to use less color when drawing. It is also suggested that by focusing on the use of color rather than the resulting image created by the customer, you can avoid customers’ worries about producing a “good” product and focus more on what the colors used mean to them in order to start a dialogue about their feelings.[/vc_column_text]
