On October 12, 2023, the Department of Public Health of NJSC “SMU” carried out work as part of a round table on the current topic: “Аdvantages and disadvantages of plastic”. Students of 1-3 years of the following specialties were present: “Public Health”, “General Medicine”, “Dentistry”, “Pharmacy”, “Pediatrics”.

During the meeting, issues related to microplastics, the ways they enter and their impact on human health were reviewed and discussed. Students were presented with the results of research by foreign colleagues confirming the presence of polymer particles in the human body and examples of its impact on health were given.

The round table has become a unique platform for the exchange of views and collective discussion of the currently important problem of environmental pollution. Also, students were presented with the results of a study on the awareness of students of NJSC “SMU” about the dangers of microplastics on the human body, and information was given on the classification of plastic. At the end of the round table, students offered their recommendations aimed at minimizing the risk factors for the impact of microplastics on the human body.
