On October 28th, 2023, teachers of the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, together with residents, held a round table on the topic “Energy drinks – myths and reality” in the student house No. 3 of NСJSC “SMU”. Until recently, there was no standard definition of “energy drinks.” They were perceived as non-alcoholic drinks containing caffeine, vitamins and other beneficial substances, designed to enhance one’s performance. Energy drinks have progressively conquered the market, bringing enormous profits to producers.
At this meeting, rheumatology residents presented information about the history of the appearance of energy drinks and provided statistics on the usage of energy drinks among young people. Gastroenterology residents spoke about the composition of energy drinks, their points of application in the body, as well as the stages of impact with colorful illustrations of the material. Resident nephrologists spoke about the side effects of energy drinks.
Residents of all specialties gave examples from their short experience of working in departments, noting the danger of taking energy drinks for teenagers and young people.
During the round table, residents distributed booklets about energy drinks to students.
At the end of the meeting, listeners asked questions that interested them and thanked them for this meeting.
Responsible for educational work is the assistant of the department of internal diseases and rheumatology Selgazina M.B.[/vc_column_text]
