Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is an infection that attacks the body’s immune system. Immunodeficiency is a condition in which the body cannot fight off infections. HIV lives and multiplies in the human body, which infects the cells of the human immune system (mainly CD4-positive T-cells and macrophages – the most important cellular components of the immune system), destroying them, which are responsible for protection against various infectious diseases, benign and malignant tumors. The most advanced stage of HIV infection is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
The main routes of HIV transmission are:
-Parenteral route (through blood) – infection occurs through injection of infected drugs, use of non-sterile needles and syringes, transfusion of contaminated blood, through unsanitized instruments for hygienic procedures.
-Sexual route – infection occurs through sexual contact with an HIV-infected person
-Vertical or intrauterine route – the virus is transmitted from an infected mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.
Creativity and originality of the video were taken into account when selecting the winner. Among the submitted materials the video of students of group 3405 PED won. Department of Infectious Diseases, Dermatovenerology and Immunology invites everyone to participate in the Olympiad, dedicated to the prevention of HIV infection, which will be held on November 29, 2023 in the lecture hall № 1 of the main building of Medical University.
