From January 8 to 13, 2024 at the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology was held Winter School “Clinical Practice” for students of the 4th and 5th year of the foreign department. Responsible for holding the winter school were the head of the department Kaskabayeva A.Sh., head teacher Muzdubayeva Zh.E. and assistant Petrova Yu.
This educational event contributed to the improvement of practical skills and abilities of students obtained in the framework of theoretical training. Special emphasis was placed on the development of skills of clinical examination of therapeutic patients, the ability to make a clinical diagnosis and its justification on the basis of collected information about patients, as well as on the development of communication skills.
Students daily took part in the curation of patients in the departments of gastroenterology, cardio-rheumatology, nephrology, interviewed complaints and patient history, conducted palpation, percussion, auscultation under the supervision of the teacher, learned to write sections of the patient’s medical history, make a plan of diagnostic and therapeutic measures, justify the clinical diagnosis. Also participants of the school took part in rounds, consultations of complex patients, conducted by Prof. Department Ivanova R.L., Head of Department Kaskabayeva A.Sh. weekly in the department of cardio-rheumatology. Students actively participated, asked questions of interest.
The theoretical part of the classes included a discussion of questions and topics that cause difficulties for students, such as “Acquired heart defects”, “Syndromes of liver damage”, “Chronic heart failure”.
At the end of the Winter School, students were presented with certificates of participation and received positive feedback from both students and faculty.
This Winter School is an example of a successful student-faculty interaction providing hands-on learning and development of key skills in internal medicine.
