The role of a mentor is to teach practical activities to residents who will be able to apply it for effective independent medical practice in the field of healthcare. Clinical thinking, new knowledge and skills – these competencies are developed during the training of residents at the clinical bases of the practical level. It is these competencies that a clinical mentor helps to master. Currently at the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Rehabilitation named after D.M. Tusupova. in the 2023-2024 academic year, 12 rehabilitation residents are studying in the residency in the specialty “Physical Medicine and rehabilitation”, of which 1 year of study: in Semey-5, in Ust–Kamenogorsk – 1, in Pavlodar-1; 5 rehabilitation residents 2 years of study, 4 of them in Semey, 1 – in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Rehabilitation residents work on the basis of Semey: BSMP, University Hospital, Specialized Children’s Home in Semey. Semey, MC Toktamys and KSU “Habilitation and rehabilitation center for persons with disabilities of the Abai region”, in Ust-Kamenogorsk: Regional rehabilitation center, KGP on PCV “CMiR”.
The clinical mentor in the specialty “Physical Medicine and rehabilitation” are: head of the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Rehabilitation named after D. M. Tusupova in Semey Alimbayeva Aliya Rakhmetollakyzy, Salmenbayeva Z. B., Adisheva M. S., Abdikarimova S. S., who have more than 30 years of experience in practical medicine, and in Ust-Kamenogorsk Sekeeva T. M. with more than 5 years of experience and Salmina O. V. with more than 30 years of experience.
Clinical mentors by personal example give the development of positive qualities of residents, promote the development of professional horizons. They also transfer their knowledge and experience to residents, help and advise the resident in connection with his official duties, the main directions of his activities, ensure the study of regulatory legal acts, train resident rehabilitologists in practical skills, identify and jointly eliminate errors in clinical work. Clinical mentors provide the ability for residents to develop a responsible attitude in the performance of their professional duties. The peculiarity of our specialty is the ability to rotate through clinical databases, exchange information, interact in a team, and work together. In the course of their work, rehabilitation residents provide physical therapy and physiotherapy procedures to rehabilitators. Given the peculiarities of childhood motor development, the role of a clinical mentor in the practice of a resident is unacceptable. For a high-quality education of a young specialist, devices with modern equipment are demonstrated and taught to work on them. Resident rehabilitation doctors not only conduct practical work, but also conduct and participate in seminars, go to online zoom conferences.
Thus, young professionals get the opportunity to get the best results by making an accurate diagnosis, prescribing treatment, and receiving feedback with the help of an experienced mentor
