Seminar on topic “New Criteria for Diagnosing Paediatric Sepsis and Septic Shock”

On March 27, 2024, a seminar was held for primary healthcare physicians on the topic of “New Criteria for Diagnosing Paediatric Sepsis and Septic Shock.” Assistant of the Department of Propaedeutics of children’s diseases, Tugelbayeva A.M., delivered a presentation sharing the latest information on sepsis diagnosis in children with colleagues from the department and paediatricians at the “Venera” hospital.

Two studies conducted by the Target Group to define the concept of paediatric sepsis by the Society of Critical Care Medicine in the USA and presented at the Congress of Critical Care Medicine in January 2024 in Phoenix, USA, led to the development of updated criteria. The new “Phoenix criteria” for paediatric sepsis and septic shock reflect the updated definition of sepsis in adults published in 2016. The latest criteria for paediatric sepsis were developed almost 20 years ago.

These new definitions and the overall conceptual understanding of paediatric sepsis will contribute to improving the management, research, and treatment outcomes of children with sepsis worldwide.

At the end of the seminar, the attendees had all their pressing questions answered.
