On March 29, 2024, “Semey Medical University” (SMU) together with Abay Oblast Health Department and Oblast Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control held a seminar for medical workers of health care institutions of Abay Oblast on “Whooping Cough in Children”. The seminar was held in a mixed format.
The opening speech was made by the vice-rector for clinical work and postgraduate education of SMU D.Berikuly, deputy head of the regional department of sanitary-epidemiological control Toktabayeva A.T., head of the department of pediatric infectious diseases of SMU, chief regional pediatric infectious disease specialist Efendiyev I.M.
With the report “Epidemiologic situation on pertussis morbidity in the republic and Abay region according to the results of 2 months of 2024. Coverage of planned and catch-up immunization of the population of the region against pertussis” was made by the head of the department of epidemiological control of infectious and parasitic diseases of the regional department of sanitary and epidemiological control Serikbayeva A.B. Then Mansurova A.A., assistant of the department of children’s infectious diseases SMU presented a report on the topic: “Etiology, epidemiology, classification, clinical picture, laboratory diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pertussis in children. Doctor – bacteriologist Kumarova A.M. told about “Rules of sampling, storage, transportation, laboratory testing for pertussis”. Then Tlekina D.B., head of the department for infectious and parasitic diseases of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of Semey city made a report on “Familiarization with legal acts on the organization of prophylactic and anti-epidemic measures to prevent the spread of pertussis. Nurbekova A.S., chief specialist of information systems administration department of the regional branch of Abay National Scientific Center for Health Development named after Kaiyrbekova MH RK, presented information on the number of sick, dead, diagnosed with whooping cough (ICD-10 – A37.0, A37.1, A37.8, A37.9).
Efendiyev I.M. and Toktabayeva A.T. summarized the results of the seminar by answering the questions of the audience. The participants thanked the organizers for the seminar. A total of 152 participants took part in the seminar.
