Informing students, health workers and parents of young children about the benefits and advantages of reading in the framework of the program “Universal Progressive Model of Patronage – UPM” is an important component of the work of family physicians and pediatricians, which allows timely prevention of problems in the development of young children. This knowledge and competencies are also useful for UPM interns, many of whom have already had life experience as parents by their 6th or 7th year of study. In today’s world of global digitalization there are no areas of human life that have not been bypassed by this process, including parenting. According to statistics, 87% of children under 5 years old have access to a smartphone with internet access. 73% of children and teenagers describe themselves as reading. However, 13% of them admitted that they have not read a single book in the last six months.
In the format of the School of Preventive Medicine on the topic “Module #6 – The Art of Raising a Child: Love, Talk, Play, Read”, another training was held. The session of the School was devoted to current problems in the organization of foster care of young children, in particular, the main aspects of positive parenting, the positive impact of reading on brain development. Shared book reading between parents and children is important to promote the development of various cognitive and social abilities in young children across the lifespan. In their presentation, the interns cited evidence from numerous studies that a positive link has been established between reading books to a child and the development of brain structures. There is a clear advantage of reading books over electronic multimedia. The second part of the presentation was devoted to the negative effects of prolonged and frequent use of cell phones in young children on various areas of development.
Interns of 606 and 610 groups took an active part in the preparation and realization of the School.
The School of Preventive Medicine was prepared and conducted under the guidance of the Head of the Department, Professor Dyusupova A.A., the staff of the Department: Faizova R.I., Hismetova A.M., Belyaeva T.M., Kamasheva G.T., Yurkovskaya O.A., Terekhova T.I.
