On April 20, 2024, the X Regional Olympiad for schoolchildren in Biology was held at the Semey Medical University. The Olympiad was held in the Kazakh, Russian languages.
The purpose of the Olympiad is to attract and stimulate the interest of a wide range of graduates, 11th grade students of the region interested in the profession of a doctor, identify talanted children, develop creative abilities and interest in research activities, assist them in professional orientation and continuing education in medical universities.
For organizational and methodological support, the organizing committee was formed: the teaching staff of the Department of Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics named after the academician of National Academy of sciences Republic of Kazakhstan Raissov T.K.; the department of the NCJSC “Semey Medical University” “Medical foundation”; as well as volunteer students of curatorial groups of the department from the 1 course, specialty “Medicine” and “Pediatrics” (1217, 1219, 1220, 1230, 1231, 1233).
Participants came from different districts of the Abai region (Abai, Aksuat, Ayagoz, Beskaragai, Borodulikhinsky, Zharminsky, Kokpektinsky, Urdzharsky districts and cities: Kurchatov and Semey); Pavlodar, East Kazakhstan region (Altai, Glubokovsky, Zaisansky, Katon-Karagai, Kurshim, Samara, Tarbagatai, Ulan, Shemonaikhinsky districts, Ridder and Ust-Kamenogorsk).
After the official registration of the participants and their teachers, the Olympiad was opened in the assembly hall of the NCJSC “Semey Medical University”. At the opening of the Olympiad, Rector of NAO “MUS” Dyusupov Altay Akhmetkalievich made a welcoming speech.
The head of the department “Regional Innovation and Methodology Center” of the Education Department G.T. Toleubaeva greeted with parting words.
Professor of the department Mynzhanov Masygut Rakhimovich also spoke, he told about the experience of our department: “Our department has a rich experience of career guidance work. In total, 21 biology Olympiads were held for graduates of secondary educational institutions and colleges (city – 12 and regional – 9).” Masygut Rakhimovich also wished good luck to all participants. And then all the participants were sent to lecture halls.
The Olympiad was held in one round in the form of written testing, the tests included questions from the high school biology program in the following sections: botany, zoology, human anatomy and physiology, general biology, general, medical genetics. The written test consists of 50 questions of 1,2,3 levels. 80 minutes were allotted to complete all tasks, without a break.
230 participants tested their knowledge, of which 140 participants in Kazakh language and 90 participants in Russian. After the end of the testing, the jury checked the works and determined the results.
Also, students, teachers, parents were given sightseeing tours of the thematic study rooms of the NCJSC “Semey Medical University” (Japanese, Pakistani, Indian, Kazakh, Turkish rooms, the Astana room, the room of “Peace and Harmony”), as well as to the anatomical museum and the Department of Simulation and Educational Technologies, University history museum and library.

The winners of 1,2,3,4 places of the Olympiad were awarded with prizes with the support of the university! And also, each winner was awarded diplomas for 1,2,3,4 places and each participant received a “Certificate of participation” with the number of points, as well as all biology teachers were awarded certificates for the preparation of a student.
