Group 4224, together with our curator Gulbarshyn Myrzakhmetovna, assistant of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology named after A.A. Kozbagarov, held a curator’s hour on the topic “Event for the prevention of suicidal behavior among student youth.” During the event, we discussed the reasons for suicidal behavior among students, methods of prevention, and ways to help students experiencing depression and other psychological problems. Participants of the curator’s hour discussed possible actions to create a safe and supportive environment for student youth and considered the role of educational institutions in preventing suicidal behavior.
At the curatorial hour, data and facts were presented on the prevalence of suicidal behavior among student youth both in the world and in Kazakhstan. The main factors influencing the increase in suicide risk in students were considered, including stress, depression, social isolation, problems in personal life and learning. Participants also discussed the roles of educational institutions, student communities, psychological services and government programs in preventing suicidal behavior among students and creating a healthy and safe learning environment. During the discussion, the main strategies for preventing and helping students with suicide threats were highlighted, including regular training on psychological support, access to crisis lines and counseling, as well as strengthening interpersonal connections and support in the learning environment.
At the end of the curator’s hour, key conclusions and recommendations for further action were highlighted. Participants emphasized the need to continue educational events and training on suicide prevention for both students and educators. There was an idea proposed to establish psychological centers or support points within universities to provide assistance to students with psychological issues.
It was also noted that it is important to strengthen efforts to create a healthy atmosphere in educational institutions where every student feels important and supported. Suggestions were made to organize regular meetings and events aimed at strengthening friendships and support among students.
Overall, the curator’s hour was an important step in raising awareness about the issue of suicidal behavior among students and finding ways to address it. Participants expressed readiness to cooperate and actively work towards creating a safe and healthy environment for student youth.
