On May 15, 2024, the final meeting of the journal club on neurology was held on the basis of the Department of Neurology, ophtalmology and otorhinolaryngology dedicated to the topic: “Acute neurological diseases during pregnancy and the postpartum period.” The event was organized by the assistant of the Department of Neurology, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Biniyazova A.A. for doctors of the neurological department, as well as neurology residents of 1 and 2 years of study.
The reports were prepared by: assistant of the department of neurology, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology Biniyazova A.A., and 2nd year resident Filippova N.A.
Neurological diseases occupy an important place among the causes of maternal mortality, since they account for 20% of maternal deaths. Biniyazova A.A. covered in the report such acute conditions as strokes, cerebral venous thrombosis, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, eclampsia, etc. Resident Fillipova N.A. reported on common neurological problems of pregnant and postpartum patients such as back pain, headache, myasthenia gravis, neuropathy and many others. The pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the listed diseases were discussed in detail, as well as the latest recommendations from the UpToDate database for their treatment. Next, the participants had a lively discussion on the management of pregnancy with a neurological diagnosis, our patients’ access to medications and other practical aspects. Journal club participants noted that the event was of great informational and educational importance. The participants also expressed their thoughts and ideas about running the journal club next year.
