NСJSC “SMU” actively operates the “Speaking Club for international students” for undergraduate students of the foreign department in order to develop communication skills in Russian both at the everyday and professional level. This club helps students adapt to the Russian-speaking environment and integrate successfully, preparing them for further study in an internship.

On May 17, 2024, teachers of the Department of Public Health B.B.Orazayeva and N.S.Iskakova conducted another Speaking Club lesson for students of the foreign department on the topic: “Health Indicators”. To effectively prepare students, a dictionary of terms on the relevant topic has been developed. During the lesson, special attention is paid not only to expanding vocabulary, but also to improving pronunciation. Students learned new terms related to the field of medical demography and formulas for calculating basic health indicators. When solving situational tasks, students skillfully used formulas to calculate basic indicators, such as crude birth rate, crude mortality rate, total fertility rate, structure of causes of death for various reasons, infant mortality, natural population growth, etc.

The lesson was successful, the students asked questions to the teachers and were interested in the topic. At the end of the lesson, foreign students expressed gratitude for the new knowledge and positive atmosphere. A successful lesson confirms the importance of sharing experience and knowledge in a university environment.
