Neurology residents in the process of mastering the specialty are trained at clinical sites and carry out their work under the guidance of clinical mentors. In the current academic year 24 residents of the 2nd year (Semey – 9, Ust-Kamenogorsk – 5, Pavlodar – 10) and 33 residents of the 1st year (Semey – 10, Ust-Kamenogorsk – 11, Pavlodar – 12) are trained.
Clinical mentors are assigned from among experienced specialists in their field. Thus, the role of clinical mentors in the specialty “Neurology (adult, pediatric)” is performed by heads of departments and attending doctors with work experience from 7 to 33 years.
The residency bases are the University Hospital of NCJSC “Semey Medical University” with clinical mentors Kalieva A.K. and Idrisova Ye.M., Emergency Medical Center of Semey – Orazgalieva R.F., City Hospital No. 1 of Semey – Abisheva G.K., Madieva ZH.K., East Kazakhstan Regional Rehabilitation Center – Kulinichenko S.K., Specialized Medical Center of VKO – Mukhamadiyeva S.K. Semey – Abisheva G.K., Madieva J.K.,Rehabilitation Center of East Kazakhstan region – Kulinichenko S.K., Specialized Medical Center of East Kazakhstan region – Mukhamadieva G.M., Mother and Child Center – Aidarkhanov N.N.
Together with clinical mentors, residents learn all the features of neurological examination, interpretation of instrumental and laboratory investigations results, procedures (therapeutic blocks, lumbar puncture), providing planned and emergency care to patients with neurological pathology. Clinical mentors provide personal examples of communication skills with patients, their family members or representatives, collaboration with other doctors and specialists, feedback on all aspects of clinical work.
In view of all of the above, it is difficult to overestimate the contribution of the mentor in the development of professional skills of future specialists.
