The role of the clinical mentor in the work of an endocrinologist resident

In the training of doctors in the specialty “Adult and pediatric endocrinology”, the NJSC MUS is the Department of Therapy. Since 2018, a residency program has been opened in the specialty “Adult and pediatric endocrinology.”   Residents are trained by experienced department staff, leading endocrinologists at clinical bases in Semey, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar.

Currently, at the Department of Therapy in the 2023-2024 academic year, 42 residents are studying in residency in the specialty “Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology”, of which 1 year of study: in Semey – 12, in Pavlodar – 10; in Ust-Kamenogorsk – 8 residents. 2 years of study: 4 residents in Semey, 5 residents in Pavlodar, and 3 residents in Ust-Kamenogorsk.   Residents work in Semey on the basis of  endocrinology department of emergency hospital, polyclinic No. 2, in Ust-Kamenogorsk:SPE on REM “East Kazakhstan Regional Specialized Medical Center” city hospital No. 1, Densaulyk LLP, SPE on REM “Mother and Child Center”, Ust-Kamenogorsk branch of NJSC “MUS”,  In Pavlodar: “Pavlodar Regional Children’s Hospital”, city hospital No. 3, Pavlodar.

Clinical mentors in the specialty “Adult and pediatric endocrinology” are:

– Atantayeva Bayan Zhumagazivna – head of the department of nuclear diagnostics of the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy, endocrinologist of the highest category

– Gulnara Kairbekovna Ertuspaeva – head of the children’s department of the State Medical University NJSC “MUS”, endocrinologist of the highest category

– Baimukhanova Almagul Abibekovna – endocrinologist of the highest category at the State University of NJSC “MUS”.

– Akinzhanova Shalkar Kalillaevna – endocrinologist of the highest category, SPE on REM Polyclinic 2, Semey

– Sarsebaeva Gulnara Sovetkalievna – assistant of the department of therapy of NJSC “MUS”, endocrinologist of the highest category.

– Rakhyzhanova Aigerim Amirzhanovna – assistant of the department of therapy of NJSC “MUS”, endocrinologist of the first category.

   Under the guidance of clinical mentors, residents daily learn practical skills in supervising patients, performing endocrinological manipulations, entering medical records, including working in KIIS. Residents participate in rounds of department heads, professors, clinical discussions and consultations. Under the guidance of clinical mentors, heads of departments, and leading residents of clinical sites, residents actively manage wards, participate in the diagnosis and treatment of supervising patients, and perform scheduled duty. 

In the training of residents, special attention is paid to moral education, communication skills with patients and colleagues in compliance with the principles of medical ethics and deontology. Thus, thanks to the established school of mentoring on the principles of the trinity of education, science and clinic, the department successfully continues to train sought-after qualified doctors – endocrinologists.
