Feedback from clinical supervisors on residents on speciality “Gastroenterology for adults, children

The survey of clinical mentors of hospitals of Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semey cities on feedback of residents on speciality “Gastroenterology for adults, children” with the purpose of monitoring and control of training on clinical bases was carried out. In these hospitals under the mentorship of clinical mentors – experienced and qualified doctors of practical healthcare, residents during the academic year worked and developed their clinical competences. At present, 4 residents of the 1st year of training and 4 residents of the 2nd year of training are studying on speciality “Gastroenterology for adults, children”, from them 2 residents are studying on the basis of Gastroenterology Department of University Hospital of “Medical University of Semey” NCJSC, 4 residents – on the basis of the University branch in Ust-Kamenogorsk city and 2 residents – on the basis of the University branch in Pavlodar city.

Residents on speciality “Gastroenterology for adults, children” showed themselves as competent, conscientious specialists with clinical thinking, also their aspiration to self-improvement and continuous professional training, and it was irrespective of the place of passing residency. Feedback from clinical mentors showed that residents have sufficient medical skills to examine diagnosis and treatment of patients, actively participated in clinical discussions and consiliums, in discussion and implementation of new modern methods of diagnosis and treatment. The residents applied their theoretical knowledge in practice in full and adhered to the principles of medical ethics and deontology when communicating with patients and colleagues.

Comprehensive support from the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology of the Medical University of Semey in the form of academic mentoring and from experienced doctors of practical healthcare in the form of clinical mentoring allowed to achieve a good level of training of residents in the speciality of “Gastroenterology for adults, children” regardless of the place of residency.
