Arterial hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disease in the world. It affects 1.28 billion adults aged 30–79 worldwide, two-thirds of whom live in low- and middle-income countries, according to WHO. Arterial hypertension significantly increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, strokes and other diseases.
The main causes of hypertension include an unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet, lack of physical activity, excess salt and alcohol intake, and stress. Heredity also plays an important role in the development of this disease. Many people don’t even know they have hypertension, and many of those who know don’t do anything about it.
The main objective of World Hypertension Day is to inform people about the importance of regularly measuring blood pressure, seeking timely medical help and taking steps to reduce risk. Doctors recommend monitoring your weight, nutrition, engaging in regular physical activity, and avoiding stress and bad habits.

Every year, various events are held as part of this day: medical examinations, educational lectures, blood pressure measurement events and specialist consultations. It is important to remember that prevention and timely treatment of arterial hypertension can significantly reduce the risks associated with this disease and improve the quality of life.

Celebrating World Hypertension Day reminds us of the importance of taking care of our health and taking active steps to maintain normal blood pressure.
