On May 10, 2024, K.D. Abayeva, assistant at the department of propaedeutics of childhood diseases, UG NAO MUS. a seminar was held on the topic: “Recommendations for feeding young children” for nurses of Medical Institutions in Semey, Pavlodar, Ekibastuz, Petropavlovsk in a remote format. According to WHO, malnutrition causes 2.7 million child deaths annually, or 45% of all child deaths. Infant and young child feeding is an important strategy for improving child survival and promoting healthy growth and development. The first two years of a child’s life are especially important, as optimal nutrition during this period helps reduce morbidity and mortality, reduce the risk of chronic diseases and improve overall development. Optimal breastfeeding is critical and could save more than 820,000 children under 5 years of age each year. WHO and UNICEF have developed courses to train health workers to provide skilled support to breastfeeding mothers, problem-solving assistance and monitoring the development of children so that they can promptly identify the risk of malnutrition or overweight/obesity. These and other issues were covered during the seminar. The goal of the seminar was achieved, all the most important recommendations for feeding young children were announced, and in conclusion, feedback was received from the audience.
