Seminar on the prevention of anthrax

In 2023, on October 20, a seminar on the prevention of anthrax was held at the Auezov substation of the Semey Emergency Medical Care Station. The participants of the seminar were medical workers (doctors, paramedics) of the Auezov substation of the ambulance service.
The speakers reported on the epidemiological situation regarding anthrax in the Republic of Kazakhstan, noting that there are more than 2,500 inpatient-unsafe points in the country. For 2018-2022 in 8 regions, 25 active soil foci of anthrax were registered: Zhambyl region – 7 foci, Turkestan region – 7 foci, Kostanay region – 3 foci, Shymkent – 3 foci, Abay region – 1 foci, Akmola region – 1 foci – Aktobe region – 1 outbreak, – East Kazakhstan region – 1 outbreak, North Kazakhstan region – 1 outbreak.
Infectious disease specialists reminded seminar participants that strains of the anthrax pathogen form spores, which allows them to persist indefinitely in the environment without changing their virulence and other properties. During the seminar, the Clinical Protocol for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Anthrax dated September 2, 2016 was discussed in detail. Protocol No. 11, standard case definition: presumptive case (clinical data), probable case (epidemiological data) and confirmed case (confirmatory laboratory tests).
The clinic, early diagnosis and features of clinical forms of anthrax were covered. Separately, an action algorithm for delivering an anthrax patient to an infectious diseases hospital, a notification scheme and requirements for transporting a patient with anthrax were developed.
