“On the dangers of energy drinks in teenagers”

01.10.2024 Assistant of the Department of Propaedeutics of Childrens Diseases SMU Abaeva K.D. together with their supervisory group 4405 in the specialty “Pediatrics”, they held a round table in the pediatrics department of the NCJSCSMU for sick children undergoing hospital treatment. Recently, the number of cases of children consuming various energy drinks has been increasing. The main health problems associated with the use of energy drinks include: increased heart rate, palpitations, high blood pressure, sleep disturbances and insomnia, increased urge to urinate, hyperglycemia (due to the high sugar content in energy drinks), which can be dangerous primarily for those suffering from diabetes and other metabolic disorders.Energy drink-related health problems are associated primarily with excess caffeine, especially for people whose daily caffeine intake exceeds 200 mg. These main side effects were explained to the children in an accessible form. A demonstration video was shown and colorful brochures with a visual depiction of the main issues on this topic were distributed to the children. At the end of the round table, children asked questions to answer questions of interest.
