Curatorial class dedicated to the fifth Sustainable Development Goal No. 5 “Gender Equality”

A curatorial class dedicated to the fifth UN Sustainable Development Goal, gender equality, was held at the Department of Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics named after Academician of the NAS RK T.K. Raisov. The curatorial groups of the department took part in the events: 1101, 1102, 1103, 1110, 1111. Gender equality is considered the foundation of any country’s sustainable development, as defined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): “Goal 5: Ensure gender equality and empower all women and girls.” In recent years, there has been an increase in gender equality in our country.

This is reflected in the following measures: elimination of the list of professions exclusively for women, development and implementation of a State and gender policy strategy to expand economic and political opportunities for women, strengthening measures to combat domestic violence and discrimination against women and girls. Providing women and girls with equal access to education is one of the key prerequisites for ensuring gender equality.

Among Kazakhstani students and employees of our university, women make up a significant part. Gender development issues require constant attention and support from the State and society. To summarize, our country has made some progress in involving women in the political, economic and social spheres of society.

The students showed great interest in the topic and actively participated in the discussion.
