ESSAY CONTEST REGULATIONS

Essay Topic: “My Profession – My Conscious Choice!”

I. General Provisions

1.1. These Regulations define the terms of the contest, criteria and procedure for evaluating submissions, the selection process, and the awarding of winners.

1.2. The contest aims to improve the ideological agenda in internal policy and to foster civic awareness among young people.

1.3. The rules, selection process, and evaluation criteria for the contest are developed and approved by Semey Medical University.

II. Organizers of the Contest

2.1. The contest is organized by the Department of General Education Disciplines of Semey Medical University.

III. Goals and Objectives of the Contest

3.1. The goal of the contest is to encourage the formation of an active civic position among students, promote the importance of choosing a profession consciously, and develop personal responsibility for their professional path.

3.2. Objectives:

To identify students’ interests, inclinations, and abilities;

To promote conscious professional self-determination;

To develop skills in argumentation and creative thinking.

IV. Contest Participants

4.1. First-year students of all majors at Semey Medical University are eligible to participate in the contest.

V. Contest Procedure

5.1. The contest will be held from October 13 to October 31, 2025.

5.2. Essays must be sent to the email address: ood@smu.edu.kz
no later than October 28, 2025, with the subject line: “Essay Contest”.

5.3. Each participant may submit no more than one essay.

5.4. An Organizing Committee will be established to conduct the contest, composed of a chairperson and experts from the faculty of the Department of General Education Disciplines.

5.5. Responsibilities of the Organizing Committee include:

Developing the contest procedure and guidelines;

Informing participants about the contest;

Acting as the jury;

Summarizing and evaluating contest results;

Preparing the final report;

Organizing the award ceremony.

VI. Essay Requirements

6.1. Content Requirements:

Must correspond to the contest topic;

Should reflect the author’s individual position;

Must present original ideas and a creative perspective;

Should demonstrate the author’s ability to justify their point of view.

6.2. Language:  Essays may be submitted in KazakhRussian, or English.

6.3. Formatting Guidelines:

File format: Microsoft Word;

Font: Times New Roman, size 14;

Line spacing: 1.0;

Maximum length: 3 pages;

If quotes are used, proper citations must be included in footnotes.

6.4. Title Page Must Include:

Full name of the educational institution;

Essay title;

Author information: full name, course, group;

Contact phone number and email address.

6.5. Essays that do not meet these requirements will not be considered by the jury.

6.6. Essays submitted after October 28, 2025will not be accepted.

VII. Contest Results

7.1. The jury, consisting of Organizing Committee members, will evaluate all essays and select the three best submissions by October 30, 2025.

7.2. Winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) will receive certificates of recognition.

7.3. Evaluation Criteria:

Clarity of expression;

Grammar and stylistic accuracy;

Argumentation of the conscious career choice;

Emotional richness;

Originality of content.

7.4. The award ceremony will take place on October 31, 2025 at the Department of General Education Disciplines.

7.5. By decision of the Organizing Committee, one winning essay will be selected for publication in the media and on social networks.
