Excursion to the Sacred Sites of Kazakhstan Visit to the “Abai–Shakarim” Memorial Complex in Zhidebay

On April 26, 2026, third-year students of NJSC “Semey Medical University,” under the guidance of the assistant of the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology and curator of group 3103 Medicine, Almagambetova A.A., took part in an excursion to the sacred sites of Kazakhstan and visited the “Abai–Shakarim” Memorial Complex in Zhidebay.

The “Abai–Shakarim” Memorial Complex is a unique site both in terms of its architectural concept and its technical design and execution.

The memorial complex in Zhidebay holds great significance for students, serving as a center for the development of national identity, patriotism, and the study of cultural heritage. It is also a place of pilgrimage, where students gain a deeper understanding of the philosophy of Abai Kunanbayev and the творчество of Shakarim Kudaiberdiyev, as well as their contributions to literature, enlightenment, and the spiritual revival of the Kazakh people.

Students immersed themselves in the atmosphere of the era, explored the tragic destinies of these thinkers, and studied their legacy (lyrics, the “Words of Edification,” poems) within a historical context.

Patriotic education: The “Abai–Shakarim” Memorial Complex in Zhidebay symbolizes the “golden age” of Kazakh thought, fostering in young people respect for national roots, honesty, and a love for knowledge—values emphasized by Abai. The memorial complex helps students not only learn about the works of great figures but also reinterpret their teachings in a modern context, understanding Abai as a “spiritual leader.”
