The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the Member states of the United Nations in 2015, are a call for urgent action by all countries in the spirit of global partnership. The SDGs recognize that the elimination of poverty and other issues must be closely linked with strategies to improve healthcare and education, reduce inequality, and promote economic growth, while also addressing climate change and its impacts.

By 2030, 17 key areas have been selected, the implementation of which could potentially lead countries to sustainable development across all major life spheres and help solve global problems that affect every individual in the world.

The process of implementing and achieving the SDGs is under constant monitoring both by UN representatives and the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

NCJSC “SMU” strives to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs by integrating them into all university processes. These include education, research, medical services, economic growth, and resource management.

NCJSC “SMU” aims to achieve its economic, social, and environmental objectives within the framework of long-term sustainable development.

The economic aspects of sustainable development guide the activities of NCJSC “SMU” towards increasing long-term value, enhancing process efficiency, increasing investments in the creation and development of new technologies, and improving labor productivity.

The social aspects of sustainable development direct the activities of NCJSC “SMU” towards ensuring labor safety, fair compensation, respect for workers’ rights, individual staff development, creating new jobs, sponsorship and charity, and providing quality services.

The environmental aspects of sustainable development guide the activities of NCJSC “SMU” towards minimizing the impact on biological and physical natural systems, applying environmentally friendly and energy-saving technologies, as well as waste recycling and disposal.

The key objectives of NCJSC “SMU” in the field of sustainable development are:

  1. Integrating the principles of sustainable development into the university’s activities;
  2. Conducting an analysis of activities and monitoring risks within the framework of the three components of sustainable development;
  3. Creating mechanisms for effective interaction with stakeholders, including regular reporting on activities and results in the field of sustainable development.
