Semey Medical University was founded in 1953. In 1995, an additional department for foreign students was established here for the first time among medical universities of Kazakhstan. For the first time, 43 foreign students from India, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria and Jordan were enrolled in the University to study various specialties. Since 1998, the language of instruction has been English only.
Thus, Semey Medical University became the first public medical institution in Central Asia, where in addition to the traditional Russian and Kazakh language of instruction, students had the opportunity to study in a foreign department. This is one of the main reasons why a large number of foreign students want to enter our University.
The University has developed an educational and methodical complex of disciplines in English by the relevant departments, a large number of educational literature in English was purchased, which is replenished every year. Many facilities are arranged for foreign students: medical care, recreation and entertainment, traveling around the country.
Over 65 years of existence, the University has trained tens of thousands of highly qualified medical specialists who offer their services not only in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries, but also around the world, especially in the United States, Germany, Australia, India, Pakistan, Israel.
Today Semey Medical University is the largest medical educational institution in Kazakhstan, which has its own University Hospital, Educational and Clinical Center (ECC) with simulation classes for training and development of practical skills of students, museums, a large library. SMU also has branches in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar. In recent years, the University is actively developing student science and academic mobility.
Semey Medical University is a leader in the field of information and communication technologies of education in Kazakhstan: lecture halls are equipped with modern equipment, Internet is freely available in many clinical departments, TV and video equipment is available in all classrooms, the library has access to the largest medical databases. Specialized training rooms for classes based on innovative educational technologies are available for everyone.
