Harmonization and Mutual Recognition of Master’s Programs in Occupational Health and Environment / HARMONEE

The project proposes the development and implementation of disciplinary and interdisciplinary modules in the Master’s degree program in Public Health in four Central Asian countries: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. A changing world and global challenges show the immense role of scientific development in public health, OneHealth and environmental health, including occupational health and toxicology.

Thus, the project aims to address several regional priorities:

curriculum development including social and behavioral sciences, agriculture and veterinary sciences, environment, mathematics and statistics

internationalization of universities through cooperation between universities in Europe and Central Asia

the development of higher education in society as a whole by improving the interdisciplinary and pedagogical skills of teachers.

The overall goal of the project is to improve public health knowledge and practice (including environmental health, occupational health and One Health) in line with current needs and gaps in Central Asian countries.

Project objectives

Development of new modules to strengthen the interdisciplinary skills required in public health such as environmental epidemiology, toxicology, infectious diseases, impact sciences, occupational health, risk assessment for masters. This will enhance local expertise in surveillance programs and address regional public health hazards through the training of qualified masters.

Building local capacity by training teachers to develop and deliver master’s programs in public health.

Improving the educational and research competencies and skills of participating HEIs in areas related to public health.

Promoting and expansion of the existing regional and international public health network.

Introducing an interdisciplinary approach to public health education.
