The Department of Medical Rehabilitation and Neonatology was established by Order No. 359 dated May 29, 2025, by the Chairman of the Board-Rector of the NJSC “MUS”.
As of today, the head of the department, elected by the decision of the competition commission, is Candidate of Medical Sciences, Assistant Professor Alimbayeva A.R.
The department staff includes: Tlemisov A.S., Alibekova B.A., Dairbekov E.E., Ailbayeva N.M., Duletzharova Zh.K., and Alibek E.

The educational activities of the department are aimed at training specialists in the specialty “Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation” since 2020 and in “Neonatology” since 2019.
Our graduates successfully realize themselves in the professional field. All of them are employed, and currently, among them are chief physicians, heads of departments, and a doctoral student continuing education in scientific research.

Internship training began in the 2021–2022 academic year:

  • Interns in the specialty “General Medical Practice” study the discipline “Rehabilitology”;
  • In the specialty “Pediatrics,” the discipline “Pediatric Rehabilitology”;
  • Since the 2023–2024 academic year, residency training in “Cardiology” includes the discipline “Rehabilitation in Cardiology”;
  • And since the 2024–2025 academic year, in “Neurology,” the discipline “Neurorehabilitation” was added.

From the 2025–2026 academic year, all levels of education have been implemented:

  • Bachelor’s degree:
    • 2nd year General Medicine, 3rd year Pediatrics and Social Dentistry – discipline “Basics of Physical Therapy and Massage”;
    • 4th year General Medicine – “Basics of Medical Rehabilitology”;
  • 6th year General Medical Practice“Rehabilitology”;
  • 6th year Pediatrics – “Pediatric Rehabilitology”.

Neonatology training programs include:

  • 6th year Pediatrics and 5th year Pediatrics;
  • At the residency level: for residents in the specialty “Neonatology” – discipline “Early Rehabilitation in Neonatology”.

The department conducts training in three languages.
Innovative teaching methods are actively used in the educational process, such as CBL (Case-Based Learning) and integrated classes.

Methodological guidelines published over the past 5 years include:

  1. “Guidelines for providing medical care to children born with large birth weight”, published in 2019.
  2. “Guidelines for early diagnosis of cognitive developmental delay in children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia”, published in 2020.
  3. “Guidelines for the management of newborns with macrosomia in the Eastern region of Kazakhstan, with vitamin D deficiency and their microelement and mineral composition” – in Russian, approved by the Academic and Methodological Council of SMU Semey, published in 2022.

Clinical bases of the department include:

  • University Hospital of NJSC “MUS”;
  • Center for Rehabilitation and Habilitation;
  • LLP “Toktamys”;
  • Perinatal Center in Semey;
  • And branches in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar.

The department staff actively engage in clinical work at these bases, providing practical support to healthcare institutions, regularly organizing continuing education courses for doctors, and participating in round tables dedicated to the state of rehabilitation and neonatal services in the region.

The department also regularly holds master classes with the participation of leading domestic and international experts.

It has become a tradition to hold annual open house events with the participation of residents from various specialties, dedicated to significant dates such as:

  • World Prematurity Day
  • International Children’s Day
  • Children’s Heart Day
  • Rehabilitologist’s Day

The department also hosts a scientific school titled “Deficiency States in Children” aimed at developing the scientific potential of staff and young scientists.

Since 2007, the department has run an online journal club for neonatologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and since 2023, an online club for rehabilitation specialists in Kazakhstan called “Care and Recovery” has been established.

Department staff are active members of the Academic Council, Scientific Council, Methodological Council (MCS), Terminological Council, and Curriculum Development Committees (COP). They are also members of professional associations of rehabilitation specialists and neonatologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
