Everyone knows that at present time extremism and terrorism are a real threat to the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Extremism is an exceptionally great danger that can undermine any, even the most stable and prosperous society. One of the key areas of the fight against extremist and terrorist manifestations in the public sphere is their prevention. It is especially important to carry out such preventive work among young people, since it is the young generation, due to a number of different factors, that is the most vulnerable in terms of susceptibility to negative influence from a variety of antisocial and criminal groups.
From October 25 to November 6, 2019, our university held awareness-raising meetings on the prevention of religious extremism and terrorism with 1.2 year students of all specialties. This event is held annually as part of the implementation of the State program on combating religious extremism and terrorism in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2018-2020, which was approved by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan B. Sagintayev on March 15, 2018. The main goal is the prevention of the non-proliferation of religious extremism and terrorism.
The meetings were organized by the Department of Youth Policy and faculty members of the GED department Tabuldinova G.N., Sergazina G.M. The speakers were the head of the sector for interaction with religious associations of the department of internal politics of the Semey city A. Rymkanov and the famous theologian Zhunisbek A.S. During the meetings, the speakers introduced students to extremist religious organizations banned in Kazakhstan, showed several videos about the real threats to their activities, about the psychological methods of recruiting young people. One of the videos was about the broken fate of two kazakh girls who left for Syria. During the meetings, discussions were held where students expressed their point of view on this issue, as well as shared their thoughts and received comprehensive answers to questions of interest.
We believe that the holding of such events fosters students’ feelings of tolerance, instills religious anti-radical immunity in them, and strengthens the feeling of Kazakhstani patriotism.
