On August 22, 2022, the staff of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Dermatovenereology and Immunology of NCJSC “SMU” took part in a webinar on the clinical management of cases of Monkeypox, organized by the World Health Organization (speaker Dr. Dina Pfeiffer, Medical Officer, WHO Emergency Health Program). Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease caused by a DNA virus of the genus Orthopoxvirus of the Poxviridae family, endemic in Central and West Africa and occasionally imported to other regions. On 23 July 2022, an outbreak of monkeypox in non-endemic countries was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the WHO Director-General. The clinical manifestations of monkeypox are divided into local and systemic, including fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes, which can lead to a number of complications. Monkeypox virus belongs to the pathogenicity group I. The webinar focused on the key elements of clinical manifestations and case management. The materials of the seminar will be used for monkeypox prevention work and as part of the training of medical workers.
