On November 17, 2022, the Department of Simulation and Educational Technologies of SMU, NCJSC held a planned event as part of the Silver University project.
The audience of the “Silver University” were offered a workshop “Subjective well-being of the elderly”. The leader of the seminar – Associate Professor of the Department of simulation and educational technologies, Gizatullina A. G.
As you know, the process of biological aging is inevitable. One way or another, the so-called late adulthood sets in, accompanied by a decrease in physical and cognitive capabilities. Unfortunately, many representatives of the older generation are psychologically unprepared for their new age status. Often the reasons for the negative experience of the aging process are: dependence on many social factors (retirement, narrowing of the usual social circle, weakening body, illness, personal characteristics and lifestyle).
Is it possible to correct the situation and help the elderly? Of course yes!
What is subjective well-being? This is a state expressed in a feeling of happiness regardless of age, satisfaction with oneself and one’s own life.
The purpose of the workshop is the development of positive relationships with others, the formation of an active life position, the ability to change behavior in accordance with a changing environment, the formation of goals that give meaning to life, etc.
At the lesson, the audience underwent an express questionnaire, and also was learning the skills:
- adequately assess the new life situation and oneself in it;
- motivate yourself to take positive actions in terms of improving their mental state.
In a word, the lesson with a teacher-psychologist made it possible to get emotional and psychological “feeding” and, in general, the opportunity to once again feel the support from the organizers and volunteers of the project.
