As part of the participation in the Silver University project, on November 17, 2022, teachers of the Department of Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics named after Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Raisov T. K., Mukhamediyarova L. A. and Essentaeva A. M. held a lesson for old people of silver age on the topic: “Healthy lifestyle in the elderly” according to the thematic plan of the university.
The relevance of a healthy lifestyle is caused by an increase and a change in the nature of stresses on the human body due to the complication of social life, an increase in the risks of technogenic, environmental, psychological, political and military nature, provoking negative changes in health status. In modern society, the tendency to lead a healthy lifestyle is increasing more and more. Do not forget about a healthy lifestyle and older people. Even an elderly person needs physical activity optimal for his age. With insufficient physical activity in the elderly, obesity develops, metabolic diseases increase, the risk of diabetes mellitus increases, and the activity of the gastrointestinal tract is disrupted. It is worth remembering that physical activity at this age should be dosed and age-appropriate. Timely delivery of tests, examination by a doctor in case of complains, this is also one of the factors of a healthy lifestyle.
Old people of the project accepted the information with great pleasure and asked questions. For example, a project participant asked a question about how to take vitamin D3 and what tests should be taken for this? The teachers of the department gave a reasoned answer that an analysis for vitamin D (sometimes called a study of 25-OH or hydroxy) is prescribed for signs of its deficiency; also in the control and treatment of osteoporosis, lesions of the parathyroid glands. The analysis is additionally used in diagnosing the health status of patients with intestine diseases. This is due to the fact that vitamin D (D3) is absorbed along with fats from the intestinal tract. Often, an analysis for vitamin D is performed as a control in the treatment of existing deficiencies of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and, in fact, vitamin D. Venous blood is taken for analysis.
Also, teachers of the Department of Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics named after Academician of the NAS of the RK Raissov T. K. prepared video lessons on physical education for the old people. In general, positive feedback was received from the participants of the Silver University project.
