The growth of resistance of microorganisms against antibacterial drugs is a global public health problem, and ignoring the problem of antibiotic resistance can lead to not only medical, but also severe environmental consequences. One of the most important reasons for antibiotic resistance is a significant increase in the frequency of antibiotic use. Antibiotics are the only group of drugs that are used unreasonably in 50% of cases. This practice may be due to insufficient public awareness of the emergence of antibiotic resistance and improper implementation of the rules for prescribing and dispensing antibiotics. And our scientists are concerned about this growing threat and in order to develop an effective action plan, on December 1, 2022, the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University signed an agreement with the Department of Public Health of Semey Medical University, NCJSC www.smu.edu.kz on the joint implementation of the scientific project “Knowledge, attitude and practice of the use of antibiotics in the Abai and East Kazakhstan regions, as well as in Almaty” together with Semey Medical University, NCJSC. During the implementation of the scientific project, the level of awareness, attitudes and perceptions of the population about antibiotics and antibiotic resistance will be studied and educational activities will be developed based on the results.
