School of Preventive Medicine – Prediabetes in GP practice

Prediabetes is a condition when glycemic indices already exceed the norm, but have not yet reached the values that make it possible to diagnose type 2 diabetes mellitus. An increase in blood sugar is a continuum and, therefore, prediabetes cannot be considered a completely favorable condition. Prediabetes is a high–risk condition for type 2 diabetes mellitus, and is always preceded by type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes also, although to a lesser extent, like type 2 diabetes, increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, cognitive, neurological and other disorders.

How important is it to identify the initial manifestations of the disease at the prediabetes stage in time? This is extremely important. The reasons for the examination may be: overweight, diabetes mellitus in relatives, arterial hypertension, smoking, cardiovascular diseases, chronic or past acute pancreatitis, in women – the birth of children weighing 4 kg or more. All these risk factors require mandatory monitoring of blood glucose levels. Methods of diagnosis of diabetes mellitus are available to the public and are carried out within the framework of the MSHI system.

In order to raise public awareness on this issue within the framework of the School of Preventive Medicine on 02.15.2024, employees of the Department of OVP G. Semey, head of the Department, Professor A.A. Dyusupova, teachers G.T. Kamasheva, T.M. Belyaeva, V.T. Akhmetova, R.I.
