On October 16, 2024, as part of the II International Med-Congress “Man and Health. A Multidisciplinary Approach in Medicine,” the Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatology organized and conducted a hybrid-format master class on the topic “Innovative Biological Therapy in Rheumatology and Gastroenterology.”
The event featured guest speakers, the founders of leading scientific schools of the university: Dr. Raifa Latyfovna Ivanova, honored professor of Semey Medical University (“Professor Ivanova’s Rheumatology School”), and Dr. Zauresh Kenzhekanovna Zhumadilova, professor (“Scientific Gastroenterology School”).
Moderators of the event were A.Sh. Kaskabaeva, head of the department, and M.V. Goremykina, acting professor of the department.
The event was attended by students at various levels: undergraduates, interns, first- and second-year residents specializing in rheumatology, gastroenterology, and nephrology, doctoral students, as well as the faculty of the department.
In her presentation “Biological Therapy (BT) in Rheumatology of Kazakhstan,” Professor Ivanova R.L. focused on the historical aspects of the development and application of BT in rheumatology worldwide and in Kazakhstan, the molecular characteristics of this group of drugs, BT classification, and the efficacy and safety of BT in the treatment of rheumatic diseases.
Professor Zhumadilova Z.K. presented her own observations on the use of BT in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases: “Experience with Entyvio® in the Gastroenterology Department of Semey Medical University,” as well as an overview of the efficacy and safety of this innovative drug based on international clinical studies.
Additionally, important practical issues were discussed, including achieving therapeutic goals, immunogenicity during BT therapy, and a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients with rheumatological and gastroenterological conditions.
The master class generated great interest and discussion among the attendees. The usefulness and practical significance of the event were noted.
