Five minutes for a healthy spine

On October 16, Spine Day is celebrated all over the world.  The spine performs an important function in the body. This organ is responsible for mobility and balance. The health of the spine has a significant impact on the quality of human life. Back injuries, overloads, heavy physical work lead to problems with the spine, and can be the cause of severe chronic back pain, intervertebral hernias, and even neurological deficits such as paresis and urinary incontinence.

The health of the spine is influenced by many factors, such as posture, fluid balance in the body, vitamin levels in the blood, the patient’s weight and even psycho-emotional mood. It is impossible to overestimate the beneficial effects of exercise on back health.

On October 21, 2024, the event “Five minutes for a healthy spine” was held at City Hospital No. 1 in Semey. The event was organized by the assistant of the department Filippova N.A., the team of the neurological department of City Hospital No. 1, and the resident neurologists Tolubekova M.T, Tusuphanova Sh Zh., Zhartaeva A.M., Kanap’yanova M.M., Tolkynbekova M.T. Beysenova A.A. Patients of the therapeutic and neurological departments participated. The participants listened to information about ways to prevent back pain and spinal diseases, as well as non-drug methods of helping with back pain. At the end of the event, the patients together with the doctors did a five-minute exercise, which is recommended to be done daily to maintain the health of the spine. All participants were given flyers with a set of exercises. The patients actively participated.
