Round Table Dedicated to World Osteoporosis Day at the Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatol

In honor of World Osteoporosis Day, a hybrid-format round table discussion was held on October 22, 2024, at the Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatology on the topic “Osteoporosis: Modern Approaches to Diagnosis and Treatment”. This day was established by the World Health Organization in 1997 and is observed annually on October 20.

The event was moderated by Acting Professor of the Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatology, M.V. Goremykina; Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor R.L. Ivanova; and Acting Associate Professor T.Kh. Rymbayeva. Also in attendance were the entire teaching staff of the department, 1st and 2nd year residents in rheumatology, nephrology, and gastroenterology, as well as interns.

The event aimed to exchange experiences and enhance the knowledge of young specialists and students on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of osteoporosis.

As part of the round table, first-year doctoral students in the specialty of “Medicine” presented their reports. G.B. Bersimbekova discussed “The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Osteoporosis,” providing relevant information about the disease’s prevalence across different age groups and key factors contributing to its development. G.B. Kanapiyanova presented a report on “Modern Methods of Osteoporosis Diagnosis,” offering a detailed overview of contemporary diagnostic approaches, including the use of densitometry and other methods for assessing bone mineral density. New technologies and methods for detecting osteoporosis at early stages and more accurately assessing fracture risks were also discussed.

Rheumatology residents presented on the topic “Principles of Osteoporosis Treatment,” where they reviewed the main therapeutic approaches to this disease. The participants discussed modern medications, their effectiveness and safety, as well as the importance of non-pharmacological methods, such as dietary adjustments and physical exercise, in the comprehensive treatment of osteoporosis.

The round table allowed specialists to exchange knowledge and experience, as well as discuss current trends in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. The event became an important platform for the professional development of young doctors and contributed to strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration.
