Discussion platform on the modernization of primary health care

On November 6, 2024, a meeting of 3rd year students in the specialty «Public Health» of three medical universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place online: NCJSC AMU, NCJSC SMU and NCJSC WKMU named after Marat Ospanov. The topic of the discussion was «Modernization of primary health care (PHC): a patient-oriented approach and priority areas for the development of public health.» The main topic of the meeting was the need to modernize the primary care system to increase the availability and quality of medical services. The participants discussed the importance of implementing a patient-oriented approach, which involves not only high-quality treatment, but also taking into account the needs and wishes of the patient. This approach strengthens the trust between the doctor and the patient, and also increases the satisfaction of the population with the health care system.

As part of the discussion, priority areas for the modernization of primary health care were highlighted, including:

– Development of preventive medicine and measures for early detection of diseases;

– The introduction of digital technologies to optimize patient care and improve the availability of medical services;

– Professional development of medical personnel, especially at the primary level;

– Formation of public health education and promotion programs.

Special attention was paid to the development of public health and strengthening the role of primary health care as the first line of protection of public health. Experts noted that the patient-centered approach is a key aspect of the successful development of this system, as it allows to improve the quality of life of patients and reduce the level of chronic diseases in society.

The participants of the discussion agreed that the modernization of primary health care is one of the main priorities that requires joint efforts of the state, the medical community and society.
