On November 22.11.2024. the Clinical Committee held its regular meeting dedicated to the prevention of synthetic psychoactive substance (PAS) use. The event was organized by the department of the SMU, NCJSC clinic and the head of the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology, T.M. Moldagaliev.

The speaker, S.D. Zhanybekov, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology at SMU, NCJSC, presented on the topic of “Prevention of  Synthetic PAS Use”. During the meeting, the main causes of the spread of synthetic substances, their impact on health and the psyche, and methods for preventing their use were discussed. Special attention was given to the importance of preventive work, including informing youth, conducting educational activities, and involving parents in the process of preventing negative consequences.

The meeting was attended by S.M. Askarov, Director of the Regional Center for Mental Health of the Abai region, V.N. Ongarova, Chief Narcologist of the Abai region, G.E. Nuriden, Psychologist of SMU, NCJSC, as well as psychiatry residents from the 1st and 2nd years of training. Psychiatrists from Pavlodar and East Kazakhstan regions joined via Zoom.

The meeting concluded with N.B. Omarov, the Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs, suggesting that the problematic issues raised at the Clinical Committee be addressed both at the level SMU, NCJSC and in cooperation with the Abai Region Health Department.
