Gambling addiction and toxic environment

On February 6, 2025, Under the guidance of A.A. Dyusupova, Head of the Department of GP, and S.M. Adilgozhina, PhD, a round table was organized for students of group 5106 of the Faculty of General Medicine on the topic: “Gambling addiction and toxic environment: how gambling provokes harassment and suicidal behavior.” During the event, topical issues related to the impact of gambling addiction on the psychoemotional state of a person were considered, as well as possible prevention and support measures for victims were discussed. Gambling has long been recognized not only as a source of financial risk, but also as a serious social problem. Its impact on individuals and society as a whole can be devastating, causing a chain of negative consequences. Gambling is becoming more common among students, due to the availability of online gambling and the desire for quick financial gain.

People suffering from ludomania often face chronic stress due to debt and social isolation. This can lead to violent acts, both in the family and in the professional environment. Harassment, manipulation, and exploitation of vulnerable players are also common in the gambling industry.

To combat the negative effects of gambling, it is necessary to introduce preventive measures, restrict access to gambling and provide specialized psychological assistance. Raising awareness of the risks of ludomania is a key step towards reducing its devastating impact on society.
