Conversation on prevention of domestic violence

Domestic violence has become one of the most discussed social problems not only in foreign countries, but also in Kazakhstan. This topic has become increasingly discussed in Kazakhstan in recent years. Undoubtedly, this has a positive effect – the population is becoming more aware that the use of violence is not the norm. There is no single answer to the question of why domestic violence occurs. Each person is unique in their life experience, psychological portrait and the issue of morality and ethics. However, there are the most common factors of domestic violence: the belief that physical and mental violence are acceptable, alcohol abuse, unemployment and mental health problems. For example, there is a study showing that people who were physically abused in childhood are more likely to become aggressors in adulthood. Thus, this behavior pattern can be passed on from generation to generation. A person’s social and economic well-being plays an important role. Social stress can exert pressure. As a result, violence can be one of the ways to respond to stress.

For the purpose of prevention among students, on February 19, 2025, at the Department of Biochemistry and Chemical Disciplines named after Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tapbergenov S.O., under the supervision of curator Sydykova K.T., a curatorial hour was held by students of group 204 of the specialty “Dentistry” on the topic: “Prevention of Domestic Violence”. During the conversation, the students tried to understand the root causes of the problem – why domestic violence occurs and how to stop this vicious circle.

To break the vicious circle, it is necessary to identify the fact of moral or physical violence. Prevention of domestic violence is not only a matter of providing assistance to victims, but also creating conditions for preventing violence in the early stages of its development. In such cases, it is recommended to seek psychological support from a specialist and notify family and friends about the situation. It is important to remember that there are crisis centers in the country that provide comprehensive assistance to victims of domestic violence. Only the combined efforts of the state, society and individual citizens can lead to the creation of a safe and fair environment for all.
