Implementation of the “Learning Through Teaching” Program

Implementation of the “Learning Through Teaching” Program

At the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology of NCJSC “Semey Medical University” (NCJSC SMU), the “Learning Through Teaching” program is actively being implemented in the 2024–2025 academic year to enhance the pedagogical competencies of residents. This program is carried out in accordance with the Regulations approved on February 6, 2024, at NCJSC SMU. The “Learning Through Teaching” principle enables academically successful residents to effectively teach undergraduate and internship students.

In this regard, on March 17 and 18, 2025, a second-year resident specializing in “Adult and Pediatric Rheumatology,” D.S. Seitkhan, who is proficient in English, conducted Rheumatology classes for Group 447 of foreign students from the General Medicine faculty under the supervision of M.V. Goremykina. According to the curriculum, two topics were covered: “Ankylosing Spondylitis” and “Reactive Arthritis” using the CBL method.

The “Learning Through Teaching” approach fosters a more trust-based and equal communication between the resident and undergraduate students, reducing authoritarianism and distance while encouraging engagement. Additionally, this teaching method helps develop leadership qualities, teamwork skills, communication skills, and fundamentals of pedagogical practice for the resident.
