On March 17, Shańyraq Kúni was celebrated at SMU – a day dedicated to strengthening family traditions, respecting elders, and fostering national unity. As part of the Nauryz festivities, this holiday symbolizes home, warmth, and harmony, bringing Kazakhstani people together.
Across the country, various cultural events, charity actions, and gatherings were held to emphasize the importance of family values. Young people visited homes for the elderly, while schools and community centers organized lessons on the significance of the shańyraq—the top part of the yurt, symbolizing a strong family and national unity.
Shańyraq Kúni has become an important tradition in Kazakhstan, reminding people of the need to preserve their roots, support loved ones, and cherish the national heritage.
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics prepared a theatrical performance of “Syrǵa salý”, demonstrating one of the significant traditions of the Kazakh people. Additionally, senior lecturer Mukasheva Darynkyzy performed the song “Áiel baqyty”, filling the hall with warmth and a festive atmosphere.
The event brought together faculty members and students, allowing them to once again connect with the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people.
